Nate Starkey and Ashley Ward from Los Angeles join us January 7th and 8th for two workshops and a show that only a married couple could bring to the stage. And that’s just what they are!
Yes. They really are married! And they are performing in our 9:30pm block on January 7th. Get Tickets Now!!
You can also train with them!
Ashley will be teaching intermediate musical improv on January 8th from 11-2pm.
This workshop is specifically geared toward folks who have some musical improv experience but want to work on some fine tuning (pun intended)! We’ll be working on different types of song structures like tag lines and verse/chorus songs, as well as working on “choreography” and physicality that really makes your musical feel like a musical! We’ll also work on making our songs feel like poetry rather than just dialogue set to music! Most importantly we are going to have a ton of fun! Get ready to make some big choices and unlock your musical improv diva!
Nate will be teaching January 7th from 2-5pm with a focus on Scene Notes. You’ve taken classes, you’re getting your stage time in, you’re ready for some intensive scene notes. What are your strengths? What is happening in those moments when it just doesn’t seem to be working?
How do you deal with curve balls from your scene partner?
Nate will help you explore the moment in this three hour workshop. He’ll help you isolate your strengths and weaknesses and send you off with a focus for your progression as an improviser. It’s time for you to reach that next level and this is the workshop to help you get
there. This workshop will focus less on muscle building exercises and more on
lots of two person scenes followed by, and accompanied by scene notes
and discussion of your work.
About the performers/instructors:
Nate Starkey has been performing improv comedy in front of audiences for 30 years! Yet, he’s still amazingly young and attractive. Nate has recently succumbed to the pressure to move to Los Angeles so that he could become another Hollywood asshole, but lived in NYC for 17 years, where he performed improv all over the city. Most notably with NYC’s award winning and the PIT’s marquee improv team, Big Black Car. Nate was also the PIT’s level 5 instructor, and it’s most tenured teacher before his departure, having taught all of it’s levels during his time
there. Before moving to NYC, Nate did improvised street theater with Disney World, and short form improv with Comedy Sports and Theater Sports all over the country. Nate has traveled the world teaching improv to everyone from corporate professionals, to medical professionals to the U.S. Olympic Team. You can currently see Nate performing improv in Los Angeles, at UCB,
IO West and the Nerdist.
